Telangana Growth Analysis

Telangana Growth Analysis

A real-time data analytics project to analyse the growth of Telangana state between FY2019 and FY2022.

Telangana's economic growth is a story of success. In a short period, the state has transformed itself into one of the leading economies in India. What are the factors that have driven this growth, and what challenges remain? This article will explore these questions using data from Open Data Telangana. It is also a resume project challenge run by Codebasics.

Dataset

The dataset provided consists of five files:

  1. dim_date

  2. dim_districts

  3. fact_stamps

  4. fact_transport

Objective

  • Explore Stamp Registration, Transportation and Ts-Ipass Datasets. Understand their attributes, categories and period.

  • Analyze trends and patterns within each department.

  • Identify growth opportunities and areas needing attention.

  • Find correlations among these departments and report the overall growth of the state through insights and relevant visuals such as shape maps.

By doing the above, we'll have to answer the primary and secondary research questions which we'll see later in this article.

Tools & Technologies Used

Below are the tools and technologies used to complete this project.

  • Microsoft Excel (To explore the data)

  • Microsoft Power BI (To create a dashboard and analyze data)

  • SQL (To verify the correctness of the solutions derived in Power BI)

  • Microsoft PowerPoint (To create presentation slides)

  • OBS Studio (To capture screen and record video of presentation)

Primary Questions

Below are the primary questions & their answers asked as part of the challenge.

How does the revenue generated from document registration vary across districts in Telangana? List down the top 5 districts that showed the highest document registration revenue growth between FY 2019 and 2022.

Document registration revenue is highest in districts closer to the state capital, Hyderabad. Rangareddy district generated ₹108.2 billion, the highest among all districts between FY2019 and FY2022.

The document registration revenue data for Jayashankar Bhupalpally is missing in the dataset.

The top 5 districts that showed the highest document registration revenue growth between FY 2019 and 2022 are:

  1. Mulugu (170.94%)

  2. Adilabad (122.84%)

  4. Mancherial (91.75%)

  5. Medchal-Malkajgiri (91.68%)

Medchal-Malkajgiri district is the second-highest revenue earner from document registration in Telangana, and its revenue is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 91.68%.

How does the revenue generated from document registration compare to the revenue generated from e-stamp challans across districts? List down the top 5 districts where e-stamp revenue contributes significantly more to the revenue than the documents in FY 2022.

The revenue generated from document registration and e-stamp challans is almost evenly distributed.

E-stamps seem to be most popular in and around the state capital.

Is there any alteration of the e-Stamp challan count and document registration count pattern since the implementation of the e-Stamp challan? If so, what suggestions would you propose to the government?

Since the launch of e-stamp challans in December 2020, the number of e-stamp challans has been slightly higher than the number of document registrations. The government can increase awareness and adoption of e-stamp challans by running campaigns and offering incentives, such as discounts on registration fees.
